For me, I think I was a little disappointed. I thought this read was going to be one creep fest to the next, but....it wasn't.
The journey is seen through the eyes of Will Besting. His fear is crowds, well, pretty much people in general. But how this came to be was a total shock fest. Didn't see that one coming. Which puts a smile on my face:).
Because of this fear his parents are sending him to this place that "supposedly" cures people of their fears. He goes but gets out and hides in a basement that happens to have eyes over/within Fort Eden, allowing him to see certain things. And those things are what drive this plot line.
There's a small romance that forms within his head with another teen going there to get herself cured, too. This person, as they grow closer, makes him want to look deeper into the reasons why they are there, because of his fear for her. Which I don't blame him, the whole thing just screams weird.
He's also torn between letting her get cure and maybe losing a part of herself in the process or run away with her because of what he've seen.
The concept was great but when they got to the fears I felt like they ended to soon. In a blink really. The fears didn't creep me out though I was surprised with a couple of how they came to be for these people. And the true reason why they were chosen to come to Fort Eden was....wow, didn't suspect a thing like that. Throughout the book we know something is up but that- the real reason- I can tell you, you'll never figure it out.
I actually loved the ending makes me intrigued for the next to come. There's twist and turns but little and most at the ending. Not my creepiest read but it held my interest, even though I was slightly disappointed.

the creepy old guy in the story, well, I pictured this guy play him within my mind. He plays a creepy old guy in House of Anubis a Nick show so I just know he's perfect.
