~Summary~

Humanity has colonized on a tidally locked planet known as Pendomus, a planet of extremes. Half eternal scorching desert and half perpetual arctic night. Surviving along the temperate band between the two, we’ve set up home in a complex known as the Helix. Within the Helix lies a highly sophisticated, highly technological society functioning solely on humans fulfilling their life’s purpose. That purpose is determined and nurtured through a person’s natural aptitudes, as read by their daily brain scans. Eating, sleeping, even procreation is handled by professionals. These basic concepts, no longer a part of society’s every day norm.

Seventeen-year-old Runa Cophem longs to be more than part of the Helix machine. Her life inside is anything but fulfilling. She feels disconnected, and longs to be more than society dictates. Inside, no one socializes, no one interacts in a meaningful way. It’s never set right with Runa. She would love nothing more than to reach out to her family, but not even her own mother can show any semblance of love for her. Instead, Runa has found solace in the ancient woods nearby, despite being strictly forbidden.

Runa’s life takes an unforeseen turn when she’s brutally attacked, and left for dead in those woods near the Helix. Rescued by a stranger with blue hair, she’s immersed into a surprising way humanity has survived. Fueled by a yearning to belong, and an attraction she didn’t even know was possible, Runa wants desperately to make a new life. Yet, there’s much she doesn’t know about herself, about the planet and the forces controlling her from afar.

What she needs is some answers.

~My Thoughts~

This started off good but then it got a bit confusing. On a roll I didn't know this was going to be told in two point of views so I got confused once I started reading Traetons first chapter. But once I figured it out, it became less confusing. However there are still some confusing parts, lack of detail here and there, so this needs to go through another round of edits to make everything more clearer.
Pendomus moves quickly and this quickness makes me feel disconnected to Runa, our main gal. In the beginning we get a glimpse at her life in the Helix but then we're shipped off to Traetons point of view, so we don't get to see her leaving her world behind. By the summary and the hint in the chapter, Mrs. Andrews tells you Runa is leaving I just wished we got to see that, or at least got to see it through flashbacks. So throughout the story I never felt any true connection to Runa, sometimes I just didn't care. I'm glad she's fine after that horrible attack in the beginning but other than that the pacing for Runa was just too fast for me to truly care for her. For all that she was going through.
Now Traeton, I was able to easily care for him. His story unfolded perfectly and I was able to connect with him. I was able to truly feel the physical attraction he had towards Runa, I was able to feel the protectiveness he had towards her. It was interesting to see him battle within himself about her, he's the type to not want to get connected to anyone. His past tells us why and it saddens me that he has to go through such a thing. So when he finally lets himself show this passion towards her you just can't help but swoon, even though it's of course shown at the wrong moment in time haha.
Overall this was an interesting tale. But the sad thing is, if I continue reading this series I'm only really curious to see what happens to Traeton and Kani (she's a stubborn, strong ass secondary character whom goes through hell at the end). In the sequel I feel like Runa really needs to win my heart. I mean for me, I feel like Traeton and the two secondary characters really shone in this book. Oh Fenton, you and your silly accent, yet I fell for you even though you're quite the pervert sometimes haha.
Besides the fun characters the plot line did hook me, some areas stronger than others but nonetheless I did enjoy this tale. With its society of holding back hormones, with the creepy Labots that kind of remind me of some things from the terminator series, and with its little twist and turns. I'm definitely  more interested in the subplots than the actual storyline, though.
P.S this has quite a few edit problems. Some words missing from sentences, some words are in sentences that don’t belong there, some misspelled words. I wouldn’t have said anything but since my copy I believe is a proof copy, I feel the need to say these things as these edits bugged me  immensely which is one of the reasons why I’ve given this story only 3.5 Bats.

~Top Five Inspirations For This Book~
I’m sure most people answer this question with books or movies. However, my top five inspirations for this book really come down to the things that intrigue me the most.

1.      Neurology
2.      Space travel
3.      Technology
4.      Art/Imagination
5.      Paranormal reality

When I was a little girl, my younger brother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Now, while he pulled through and is still with us today, the way the brain works, how we think, why we act and behave the way we do, etc. has sort of been an embedded part of me. I love the science of the brain (just not enough to actually go digging around in them. Yeck!) and you’ll find as time goes on, my books will always have some sort of brain-science link.
I have always loved astronomy and the stars. In elementary school, we had this stardome thing that would come to our school each year and I loved it. You climb through this long dark tunnel and into a circular dome where the teacher would shine the stars up at the ceiling and explain the constellations. I could sit in that place for hours upon hours just staring at them and imaging what it would be like to be out amongst them. It was only natural, I suppose, that I would end up letting my imagination go out there.
Technology is another thing that has piqued my interest. I was in one of the first generations to have computers in my school, I learned at a young age to type, and I have never been afraid of learning the next greatest thing. Because I have a communication and marketing background, it was a logical step to mix and expand on the way technology might take that arena in the future and explore it in Pendomus.
During childhood, art and imagination were the cornerstones to my existence. My mother was a visual artist and many other family members were as well. For me, books and my own imagination were ways to expand and escape some of the harder times in my life (like my brother’s numerous close-calls with death). I became very comfortable making up worlds and using my own words to communicate things I couldn’t really say out loud. Pendomus is another, broader way to expand on the thoughts I have about life, society, and one possible fate of humanity.

Last but not least, paranormal reality has played its own role in my background and my life. While I grew up Catholic, many people around me believed in ghosts, used Tarot Cards, or held beliefs some would deem a bit “out there.” As I grew up, I became less interested in the dogma of traditional religion and more interested in the science behind belief. I have studied alternative religions from Buddhism to Wicca, and have even studied non-traditional methods for healing, like Reiki—I’m even a Reiki Master. I have incorporated a lot of the ideas, concepts, and framework into the way aspects of Pendomus work. Some of the ideas will be obvious, while others will be masked a bit more, allowing the readers to come to their own conclusions.

  1. Thanks so much for participating in the blog tour and your review! Ironically, the original story did have Runa running away, what she went through and all that led up to the attack. However, it was deemed to be to "ordinary"... girl runs away, yada, yada... But perhaps I will have to post as a deleted scene on my blog soon! :) I loved your take on the story and what you thought about all the characters. Let's just see if I can get Runa to win you over in Book 2. ;)

  2. @Carissa- You're very welcome! I know that's why I'm torn with my feelings with it, cause it is the "norm" and I'm glad you went a different way with it. Though I would love to see it as a deleted scene! Yes, I can't wait to see if Runa can win my heart haha ;)
