~Summary~

She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

If anyone had told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

~My Thoughts~

First off, if you're looking for an in your face retelling of Alice in Wonderland then please step away from this book and go pick up Splintered by A.G Howard. But if you love young adult books, zombies, action, and romance then please go buy this book!

In the beginning there were cliches and I was afraid this book wasn't going to be original at all. But boy was I wrong! Cliches can be a hit or miss for me and this book was definitely a hit! Like the cliche of two boys fighting for the main girls heart, I thought that was happening in this book too. But then Mrs. Showalter pulled the rug right from under my feet and I was addicted! From the beginning I was captivated even with the cliches, I just couldn't get enough and I hated when I had to put the book down!

Just wow, I'm absolutely craving to go buy the rest of the books! I was dying to buy them when I was only halfway through this book! I was about to too but the copy at the store sadly had a bent corner and I just couldn't purchase it....But I will soon because I'm just dying to have them in my hands even though my tbr pile is screaming for me to not purchase anymore books for a while but I can't help the need in me for those books!

I absolutely love the world Mrs. Showalter created! Her zombies were original and not the brain craving ones we're used to! Ali was tough and vulnerable at the same time, the balance was beautifully written! Some parts just broke my heart so this was definitely an emotional roller coaster and I was devouring every word! Every signal word, again I just couldn't get enough! I wished so badly to form a bubble around me so I could forget the world and my daily responsibilities!

Cole, sigh, he made my heart skip a few beats. At first I rolled my eyes, the typical bad boy attitude and stereotype character with his pushing her away and giving major mix signals. But then he was forced to be with her and I'm glad he threw away with the mix signals, throwing down his guard and letting her know he wants to be more. My little hopeless romantic heart just couldn't get enough of him, I was definitely swooning at his sweet nothings. I'm glad his character developed and out of the stereotype box I put him in the first moment we met him! Seriously, I just couldn't get enough of him and I need more of him like right this second! haha. I'm glad the romance wasn't complicated with two guys but instead straight forward with whom was going to have her heart! I'm very curious onto why Ali and Cole have those visions, hopefully we'll get more on that in the next one!

Overall hyped books are a hit or miss and I'm so pleased to say this was a hit! I'm so glad I finally bought the book and read my first Mrs. Showalter book! I'm excited to read the rest of this series and more books from her! I can see her becoming a favorite author easily!

Sweet Readings Everybody!

  1. I just love this book series! I always tell people not to expect a lot of Alice in Wonderland stuff or they will be very disappointed.

    1. Yeah, I was prepared that it wasn't going to be thanks to Goodreads reviewers. So knowing it wasn't an Alice retelling upfront, I was able to enjoy it a lot more for what it really is! I can't wait to continue the rest of the series, I just know I'm going to love it!
